The Painting of the Socks

We lucked out this Saturday when the predicted afternoon thunder storms decided to make an early morning appearance and leave the rest of the day clear! The Chicken Legs and I hauled all my dyeing equipment to my girlfriends house and we had a dyeing party.

We had bought some of Knit Picks new Sock Blanks to play with and I brought along some undyed yarn that I had sitting around waiting for me to be spontaneously creative with.

If you look close you can see the yellow string in there? I ran some crochet cotton through the live stitches on both ends of the sock blanks. I could totally see them unraveling on us!

The Chicken Legs admired my girlfriends yarn. The blue in the jar was a gradated dyeing attempt. We flew by the seat of our pants on that one, I forgot to bring directions on that… 😮

Here are our final products:

In the left picture the 2 sock blanks to the left are mine, and in the right picture the 3 skeins to the right are mine. 🙂

When I got home, they were still wet so I put them out in the back yard to dry and of course took more pictures:

Guess what I’m calling this? Yup! Le Tour de France colorway. Get it? I tried to represent the 4 colored jerseys that are awarded during the race. I was a little overenthusiastic with the color though…I don’t really have enough white space…

After a long day of dyeing, I think I wore The Chicken Legs out.

Tour de Fleece

I’ve joined the Tour de Fleece for the first time this year. I didn’t know the Tour existed but I’ve been spinning for a couple of years now. And I’ve enjoyed watching the Tour de France for the past 4 or 5 years. It’s going to be so cool to combine the two!!

There are actually two Tour de Fleeces on the web, the one I joined I found on Ravelry, it’s also got a flickr pool. The other is here if you are curious.

The Chicken Legs got really excited, they’ve never watch the tour before or watched me spin! They immediately started poking in my fiber stash and pulled out a couple of piles of bunny.

“The bunny this fiber came from is named Domy,” I told The Chicken Legs. They were entranced. I had a hard time getting them to let me put it away!

The next batch The Chicken Legs found was some dyed angora that was clipped, the fiber from Domy is plucked and I think is much softer.

I had to tell The Chicken Legs to be patient, though. My first goal is to get the yarn finished that I have on the bobbins right now!

Knitting Update

I have been knitting right along but after those 3 day sock-war socks, things are moving along so slowly I feel like I’m knitting through molasses! I’m working on two different projects currently. The first is called Unmentionables, K-9 was there wanting a cameo:

I’m using the CotLin from KnitPicks. I like it so far. My swatch washed up nicely. The only thing is that it has been shedding linen threads all over me as I knit. And I think this project feels so slow because it’s just straight stockinette in the round…round and round and round… I’m sure you get my drift. Though I am proud to say that I knit almost 8 inches of the leg while watching the new Indiana Jones movie in the theater and didn’t make a mistake!!

The second project I’ve been working on (primarily my bus project) is the Rainbow Socks:

This one I did 6 repeats of the pattern trying to get the short rows to look good and finally got it using Japanese Short Rows that I learned from nonaKnits. I’m struggling a bit with them on the heel but I think the leg looks great.

And again K-9 was right there helping us out…

Nancy Drew

Anyone else like the vintage girls’ series books? The Chicken Legs and I scored big last week; we got 41 Nancy Drew books in trade! They were the matte picture cover format and not very collectible (read cheaper!). Everyone wants the older formats but the picture covers are what I grew up with so that’s what I want to see on my shelf. And thanks to this trade I’m only 8 (7 now, I bought one over the weekend…) books short of having the whole set of 56 in picture cover. 🙂 Yea!

If you’re curious, yes I also collect The Three Investigators books…

The Quest of the Missing Map cover has got to be my favorite of the ones that we just got! Love the purple!

Sit-n-Stitch Housewarming

A girlfriend of mine recently bought a condo and The Chicken Legs and a few friends gathered for a fun Sit-n-stitch at her new place. Of course it happened over a month ago and I’m just now getting the pictures posted. She has a lovely place, I didn’t manage to get many good indoor shots but I did outside. And what an outside! She’s got a deck and is right on top of a pond with lots of birds and baby birds! I’m jealous.

We’ve Been Tagged

Scottie Acres tagged us a bit ago and The Chicken Legs finally got around to giving me their answers to the questions.

First here are the Rules:

Answer 6 questions, then Tag 6 people by visiting their blog and leaving a comment that they’ve been tagged and to find the rules they come back here. Then I must tell my tagee (in our case Scottie Acres) that I have posted my answers.

1. What was I doing 10 years ago.

Chicken Legs said, “We were not even a twinkle.” While I was doing pretty much the same thing I’m doing today, working in IT at the same job, playing hockey, etc. The only difference was that I was dating my husband. 🙂

2. 5 things on my to do list for today?

Here’s what The Chicken Legs gave me (I think they need to work on their handwriting…and sorry about the bad picture, I only had my cell phone with me today):

My list goes like this:

  1. Call Loom Instructor for Michigan Fiber Festival Class
  2. Goto bank
  3. Get oil change
  4. return cat food
  5. knit

Snacks we enjoy: My favorite is Cookies and The Chicken Legs say Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream (any flavor) and Homemade bread.

Things we would do if we were billionaires.  The Chicken Legs say they would build a home for unwanted chicken parts, they say there seems to be a serious lack in this area.  Of course I would help my friends with their chicken parts home, but I would make it completely energy independent with things like solar and wind.

Places we have lived.  The Chicken Legs have been in Michigan all their lives but I’m an East Coast gal.  I was born & raised in NJ, spent a few summers in NH, college in VT and have been living in MI since 91.

6 people we are curious about:  I’ve been reading these blogs for a while now and The Chicken Legs suggested these blogs:
